27th March - Great Performance from Clubmembers in Butlerstown Duathlon

We had some great performances from club members who took part in our Duathlon in Butlerstown last weekend.  As many of our more experienced clubmembers were marshalling on the day, it was mainly our newest members who took part, many for the 1st time.

One of our newest members, Chris Mintern, is only 15 but he did not feel daunted in any way lining up at the front of the start with other more experienced athletes.  He came into Transition in 6th place after the 1st run and maintained his position on the bike but after posting the 4th fastest 2nd run, moved up to 5th place overall to finish 1st Junior home in 1.04.20.  A brilliant result from someone so young.  Chris is also on the Triathlon Ireland development squad so he will be one to watch for the future.

Colin Fanning was next home in 25th place in 1.09.01 with Andrew Hickey just behind in 1.09.24.  Darryl Hale is having a great 1st season with his 29th place finish in 1.10.07.  Louis O’Carroll who is another Junior member of the club also had a great race to finish in 1.12.36 with John Brennan a few seconds behind in 1.12.47.  Paul Wyse picked a tough race for his debut but he was delighted with his race to finish in 1.13.25.  Ben Casey was also happy with his first duathlon to finish in 1.19.16 with Paul Cusack just behind in 1.19.56 and Anna Louise Muldoon a few seconds behind in 1.20.16.  Jacinta Power had a great race to finish in 1.22.01 with Eleanor Carey next home in 1.26.21.  Edwina Butler had a very strong second run to overtake Olive Costello on the final hill to finish in 1.28.49 to win a prize for 3rd female vet with Olive just behind in 1.29.20.  This was Margo O’Dowd’s first duathlon and she was delighted with her race to finish in 1.29.38.

There was bad luck for Brian Slattery when he was on the 1st lap of the bike, trying out his new TT bike in a race for the 1st time, his handlebars came loose so he had to retire from the race.  Also, bad luck for Annette O’Mahony as her chain broke during the cycle so she also had to withdraw from the race.
