12th April 2010 - Final Naas Wheelworx Duathlon

On Good Friday, Martin Kirwan and Aubrey Storey both travelled to Naas to take part in the 3rd and final race of their duathlon series which had some very talented athletes taking part.  There was heavy rain and wintery conditions en route to the race which they thought would clear up for the race but no such luck.  It was very cold so many athletes wore a few layers plus hat and gloves.  The 1st run was 3.5k and was around the Punchestown race course which allowed everyone to see where everyone else was.  Aubrey has a great 1st run and very fast transition, even though he had to run much further than most to collect his bike as transition was not neutralized.  He headed out onto the 20k bike in 1st place with Martin in about 10th position.  Martin had a stronger cycle and overtook Aubrey at the half way point for them both to come back into transition in 6th and 7th place respectively.  They both maintained their places on the 2nd run for Martin to finish 6th in 60.50mins and Aubrey to finish 7th in 62.08mins.  A great race by both in the very tough conditions.

Aubrey then went on to take part in the Gorey 3 day cycle race the following day.  This tough race included 3 stages of over 60 miles cycles and a time trial.  He had a great race to finish in the main bunch each day but had to miss the last stage due to a stomach bug.
